Paington is situated in the middle of Torbay with Torquay to the North and Brixham to the south, therefore it is a good place to sail if you are looking for distractions for the rest of the family.  It can be successfully sailed in wind directions from the NE / E / SW.

Suitable windsurfing ability - Advanced

Ideal wind direction

S/SE or NE

Best Conditions

S/SW for Flat water Sailing, SE, for challenging cross on conditions, NNE with a swell can produce starboard tack wave riding if there is a swell from the East.

Avoid in - A strong Easterly with swell.  Or a W/NW wind which is offshore.

Local Hazards

Watch out for the shore dump at HW.  The beach can suffer from strong currents especially in a Easterly swell, which always seem to take you towards the pier.

Local amenities

Parking is along the seafront, generally if it is windy enough for a 6m sail then you should find space on the sea front.  Being a seaside resort there are public toilets on the seafront, plus cafe's and burger bars/ chip shops in abundance.

Access

To approach Paignton from the west use the A385 from Totnes, or if approaching from Exeter you would choose to use the A380 from the A38.
